Brite

(english) 1) Regular galvanize coating (not minimized spangle or JP). 2) Rolls that have no grit; smooth finish on surface of steel.

Butt end

(english) The residual portion of an extrusion billet that is not forced through the die at the end of the extrusion cycle.

Cement Gel

(Concrete Engineering) The colloidal gel (glue like) material that makes up the major portion of the porous mass of which hydrated cement paste is composed.

(Environmental Engineering) The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System. The discharge criteria and permitting system established by the U.S. EPA as a result of the Clean Water Act and its subsequent amendments or the permit required by each discharger as a result of the Clean Water Act.

Virus

(Environmental Engineering) A submicroscopic genetic constituent which can alternate between two distinct phases. As a virus particle, or virion, it is DNA or RNA enveloped in an organic capsule. As an intracellular virus, it is viral DNA or RNA inserted into the host organisms DNA or RNA.

(Environmental Engineering) Recommended drinking water quality standards which relate to aesthetics and/or health. These standards are recommended, not required. See primary standards.

Bloom 2

(english) A semi-finished hot rolled product, rectangular in cross section, produced on a blooming mill. For iron and steel, the width is not more than twice the thickness, and the cross-sectional area is usually not less than 36 sq. in. Iron and steel blooms are sometimes made by forging.
