Irreversible reaction

(Environmental Engineering) A reaction in which the reactant(s) proceed to product(s), but the products react at an appreciable rate to reform reactant(s).

Blasting (Blast Cleaning)

(english) A process for cleaning or finishing metal objects by use of an air blast or centrifugal wheel that throws abrasive particles against the surface of the work pieces. Small, irregular particles of steel or iron are used as the abrasive in grit blasting, and steel or iron balls in shot blasting.

Ball Burnishing

(english) A method of obtaining a high luster on small parts by rotating them in a wooden-lined barrel with water, burnishing soap, and stainless steel shot.

Equilibrium:

Acid Brittleness (Pickling Brittleness)

(english) Brittleness resulting from pickling steel in acid; hydrogen, formed by the interaction between iron and acid, is partially absorbed by the metal, causing acid brittleness.

Refuse derived fuel (RDF)

(Environmental Engineering) A fuel derived from the combustible portion of municipal solid waste. The fuel is often processed into small briquettes, similar in size to charcoal.

Bright Annealed Wire

(english) Steel wire bright drawn and annealed in controlled non-oxidizing atmosphere so that surface oxidation is reduced to a minimum and the surface remains relatively bright.

Acid Steel

(english) Steel melted in a furnace with an acid bottom and lining and under a slag containing an excess of an acid substance such as silica.

Preplaced Concrete

(Concrete Engineering) Concrete manufactured by placing clean, graded coarse aggregate in a form and later injecting a portland cement-sand grout under pressure, to fill the voids.
